Canon IXUS 500 - Still Having E18 Problems?

Hi All,

Well it looks like my IXUS 400 is gonna be consigned to the scrapheap after
an E18 error. Other than this I loved the camera, and was looking at
replacing with either an ixus 430 or 500, my one question is tho, do these
camera still suffer the dreaded e18 error?
Failing that can anyone recommend another camera in the same price range as
the ixus's and with the same features (but obviously better tech. support!).

Sorry to hear about the E18 error. We had the same thing happen on our IXUS
400. We dismantled the whole thing and found the plastic gearing had got
damaged, and hopefully fixed it.
This was pretty scary - lots of little bits! - but there was a good
pictorial guide we found.

However we broke one of the connectors during reassembly - doh!

I wonder if you are interested in selling your ixus 400 paperweight ...
;-) for parts. Can't offer you much given we don't know if ours will ever
go again.
